The two characters 競 and 兢 are distinguished as 競 “jìng” vs. 兢 “jīng”. In some usages they are very close in meaning and pronunciation, and sometimes used interchangeably, as in 《汉语大词典》 “冰競” = “冰兢” (bīngjīng).
