+The Shuōwén Seal form of 患(􁵻) huàn ‘worry’ is said to combine 心 (xīn) ‘heart/feeling’, with 吅(􀐅) xuān ‘cry out in alarm’ (phonosemantic), and a vertical line as in 中(􀃼) ‘hit/strike’; alternatively (DYC), the top part 串 is a variant wr. of 毌(􁊭􁊮貫) guàn ‘pierce/penetrate’: constant worries piercing through the heart, like a string of cowries.
