-One theory is that 全 comes from  ( = 集 jí ‘gather’), over 工 gōng ‘work’: the  whole 工 works. The vertical 丨 stroke of 工 is extended upward to join the horizontal stroke of . Or it could be that the bottom was 玉 yù, a perfect piece of jade. There might also be some relation to 合 hé, and 仝(同 tóng) ‘together’.
+The character 全 quán ‘complete’ seems to be an abbrev. of 金 jīn ‘metal/gold’, with 人 over 王, or perhaps 亼 over 土, but the traditional analysis is quite different.

+	The Shuōwén Seal form of 全(􀹃) quán ‘complete (完全); (completely) pure jade’ (jade-stone of a single color, with no veins or inclusions) is said to combine 入(􀸾) rù ‘enter’ (as in 亼 jí ‘together’), and 王/玉(􀁢􀁣𤣪) yù ‘jade’; in the main SW form 仝/㒰(􀹂) the lower part is 工(􀴍􀴎𢒄) gōng ‘work’ (as in 巧 qiǎo ‘skillful/accomplished/complete’); the bottom part of the old form 𠌆(􀹄𠓳𠓴) suggests a set/pair of 𠨍(􁣁), 𠨎(􁢸𠨓𠨖) ‘jade credentials’ (the two matching halves joined together, complete); cf. 寚(􁏉􁏈寶) bǎo (宝).
