The Shuōwén Seal form of 皿(􀶏) mǐn (formerly mǐng) ‘household food vessel’ combines 𠙴(􀶫􀐄凵) a curved bowl-shape above (representing the mouth/body of the vessel), and a base/foot below as in 豆(􀵠) dòu ‘covered ritual/food vessel’; the two lines 八(􀋮) on either side suggest two handles, one on each side of the vessel.
