<WL>隐(F隱) [yǐn] hide/conceal (隐蔽), hidden/concealed; 隐约 yǐnyuē faint/indistinct@@  [yìn] [wěn] cf. 隱
The full form 隱(􂣛) combines 阝(阜 fù) ‘hill’, and 㥯(􁲸) yǐn ‘cautious/worried’ (phonetic); in the simple form 隐 the phonetic is abbreviated to look like 急 jí ‘urgent’.
+
The simple-form character 隐 is an abbrev. of the full-form character 隱, replacing the full-form component 㥯 (14 strokes) with the roughly similar form 急 (9 strokes).
The basic meaning is to retire, go into seclusion. Whether one does so because the 心 heart is content, or in mourning, seems to be a matter of interpretation. The 阝() hills presumably would be the place where one goes to hide away. The simple form may be reinterpreted: to hide out of an 急 urgent need.
+
Note: The full-form component 㥯 is no longer used as in independent character, but the simple-form component 急 jí ‘urgent’ is a relatively common character.
Compare: 稳() wěn ‘steady’ (simplified the same way); 瘾() yǐn ‘addiction.

The Shuōwén Seal form of 隐/隱(􂣛) yǐn ‘hide/conceal’ combines 阝(阜 fù) ‘mound/hill’, and 㥯(􁲸) yǐn ‘cautious/worried’ (phonosemantic): cautious/worried and so hiding, behind a mound/hill.

Compare: 隐/隱(􂣛) yǐn ‘hide/conceal; profound/subtle; quiet; riddle; impoverished; pained; pity/sympathize; etc.’ (HDZ).

Compare: 稳/穩 wěn ‘steady’; 瘾/癮 yǐn ‘addiction’.
