The Shuōwén Seal form of 華(􁃚𦾓) huā/huá ‘flowering’ adds /艸 ‘grass/plant’ on top of 𠌶(􁃗) fū/xū ‘flowering’ (phonosemantic), cf. 𠌶. In the modern Full form 華 the lower component is abbreviated to look like 𠦒󰀄; and in the modern Simple form 华 the top is abbreviated to look like 化 huà (phonetic), while the bottom 十 stays the same (short for the old 亏/丂 sub-phonetic component).

The simple-form character 华 huá ‘glory’ (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 華 (10 strokes), replacing the first 8 strokes of the full form with 化 (4 strokes), and keeping the last two strokes (十).
“Etymologically the same word as 花; analysis of character uncertain, perhaps simply a picture of a luxuriant tree” —Karlgren(1923).

Note: Formerly 华/華(􁃚𦾓) huā/huá ‘flower/glory’, later distinguished as 花 huā ‘flower’, vs. 华/華 huá ‘glory’; the simple form 华 is only rarely/formally used for 华 huā ‘flower’, usually wr. 花 huā ‘flower’; in full-form texts both forms 華/花 huā ‘flower’ are seen (both are in Big5), but only 華 huá ‘glory’ (not 花 huá ‘glory’); the form 花 is rather old (SBGY), but 華 is much older (SJ); cf. 花 huā ‘flower’.

The Shuōwén Seal form of 华/華(􁃚𦾓) huā/huá ‘flower/glory’ (花/华) combines () ‘grass/plant’, and 𠌶(􁃗) fū/xū ‘flower’ (phonosemantic), cf. 𠌶.

In the modern full form 華 the old bottom component 𠌶 is abbrev. to look like 𠦒󰀄, while the bottom 十 is short for the old 丂/亏(􀵀) sub-component (cf. 于 yú).
