Note: Formerly 韩/韓 ‘well sweep’ (桔槔), a pivoting counterweighted pole/bucket device for drawing water from a well (DYC); this kind of device combines a fixed post/fulcrum (桔) planted some distance away from the mouth of the well, and a swinging sweep/pole (槔) attached to the fulcrum, with a weight attached to counterbalance the bucket/water; a well sweep is a simple precursor to, and sometimes a component of a 辘轳 well-pulley/winch system, connected to the general well-fence structure surrounding the well (to prevent people/animals from falling into the well). | |||
