<WL>趋(F趨) [qū] walk fast, hurry; (趋向) tend, incline to; 趋势 tendency@@  [cù] [qù] cf. 趨
From 走 (zǒu) ‘go’ and 刍() chú phonetic.
The simple-form character 趋 (12 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 趨 (17 strokes), replacing the full-form component 芻 (10 strokes) with its simple form 刍 (5 strokes).
Note: The simple-form component 刍 here suggests the top of 急(􁳳㤂) jí ‘urgent/pressing’, which however has a different origin, cf. 急.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 趋/趨(􀐐) qū ‘run (fast)’ combines 走 (zǒu) ‘run/rush (headlong)’, and 刍/芻(􀊔) chú ‘bundle of grass/fodder’ (phonosemantic); formerly also wr. (confused with) 趍(􀑂).
Compare: 奔(􁰧𢍃) bēn ‘run’, in which the lower part is 卉(􀊩芔) huì ‘vegetation’ (run/leap over plants).
