<WL>帐(F帳) [zhàng] curtain; 蚊帐 mosquito net; 帐篷 tent; account (账)
From 巾 (jīn) ‘cloth’ and 长(長) cháng phonetic.
+
The Shuōwén Seal form of 帐/帳(􁔍) zhàng ‘curtain; tent’ combines 巾 (jīn) ‘cloth’, and 长/長(􁧌𨱗) cháng/zhāng ‘spread’ (張) (abbrev. phonosemantic).
 +
Note: The SW component is 長, but SW glosses 帐/帳(􁔍) as 张/張(􂏎) zhāng ‘spread’ (spread out a curtain/net over a bed), and so it seems that the component here is short for 張 (phonosemantic).

“Awning, tent, curtain, screen, veil; sheet, scroll, bill, account; calculate, to plan” —Karlgren(1923).

“Awning, tent, curtain, screen, veil; sheet, scroll, bill, account; calculate, to plan” —Karlgren(1923).
Karlgren says this is the “correct” character for the meaning ‘account’, and that the other character 账(賬) (with 贝貝 bèi ‘money’) is “vulgar”; but modern usage is divided. It’s still not clear what is standard. Of course, for the non-financial meanings (curtain/net/tent), only 帐() should be used.
+
Note: In 帐/帳 zhàng ‘account’, 巾 is as in 币 ‘money’; now sometimes wr. 账/賬 zhàng ‘account’ (with 贝/貝).
 +
Note: Karlgren calls 帐/帳 ‘account’ “correct” (since it is the SW form), and 账/賬 “vulgar” (俗字); HDZ notes usage of 帳(􁔍) for 賬 (not in SW); 賬 is a later development, separating out ‘account’ meanings of 帳, but modern usage is divided; but only use 帐/帳 for ‘curtain/tent’.
 +
Compare: 张/張(􂏎) zhāng ‘spread’, 长/長(􁧌𨱗) cháng ‘long (time/distance).
