The Shuōwén Seal form of 壶/壺(􁰸𡔲) hú ‘round/lidded liquor/food vessel’ (of 昆吾) puts a shape like 大(􁰋) representing the lid, on top of a shape like 𠁁(􂝡􂝠𨪐) dòu ‘liquor vessel’ (representing the body of the vessel); the 大(􁰋) lid shape is written like 士 in the modern forms 壶/壺; the top of the 𠁁 shape is abbrev. to 冖.
 +
In the simple form 壶 the bottom part of the old 𠁁 shape is abbrev. to a shape like 业.
