The character 骚/騷(􁪃) sāo ‘brush/curry a horse’ combines 马/馬 (mǎ) ‘horse’, and 蚤(􂗄) zǎo ‘flea’ (phonosemantic): curry a horse to remove the fleas.
Cognate with 蚤 and also with 搔 sāo ‘scratch’.
Compare: 搔(􂆉) sāo ‘scratch/disturb; claws/nails’ (cf. 爪/㕚).
