<WL>熙 [xī] bright, splendid; 《康熙字典》 Kangxi dictionary (1716 A.D.)@@  [yí] (人名)
From 巸 yí phonetic over 灬(火 huǒ) ‘fire’.
The Shuōwén Seal form of 熙(􁯄𤌇) xī ‘spread/dry in the sun’ combines 灬(火 huǒ) ‘fire’, and 巸(􂄙) sì/shì/yí ‘broad/wide (chin/smile)’ (phonosemantic); formerly wr. 巸, cf. 巸 (HDZ).
巸 is an archaic character which meant ‘broad chin’. It is composed of 𦣞 (old form of 颐 yí ䷚) ‘chin’ and 巳 sì phonetic.
Compare: 媐(􂊾) yí ‘smiling/happy’, replaced by 熙 in classical texts (DYC).
Notice that 𦣞 is not quite the same as 臣 chén.
Compare: 颐/頤(􂄗), 𦣞(􂄖𦣝) ‘jaws (open/feeding/nourishing/laughing mouth)’ (䷚); 臣(􀡘) chén ‘servant’.
Note: In 熙, the left-side part of the upper component 巸, is 𦣞 (yí), not 臣 (chén).
