The full form is 尋: 彐 over 工 and 口 over 寸.

The simple-form character 寻 (6 strokes) is an abbrev. of the full-form character 尋 (12 strokes), omitting the central full-form component  (6 strokes).

The Shuōwén Seal form of 寻/尋(􀡾𢒫) xún ‘probe/seek’ (寻绎) puts the components 工 and 口 (, representing order/disorder/complication, as in 亂) in between 又 and (two hands), with 彡(􁡩) shān (phonosemantic); these components are explained relative to the structure of 乱/亂(􂤱) luàn ‘order/disorder’, in which 𤔔(􀫐) ‘tangled/untangle (thread)’ has similar components; 彡 here is as in 𢒄(􀴎􀴍工), or 参/參(􁊃𠻝); as a whole 𢒫(􀡾) is also equated with 𤕦(􀐆) níng (mixed/hidden contents of a 囊 náng ‘bag/sack’) which is also glossed 亂.
